Last week, The Manila Machine was featured on Kababayan LA, Southern California’s only daily Filipino television show. Kababayan LA’s lovely host, Jannelle So, not only interviewed Nastassia and I about the origins of The Manila Machine, but Jannelle also did most of her show on location from our truck. And on top of all that, Jannelle also sampled some of The Manila Machine’s finest offerings.

If you missed the show last week, don’t fret, we posted the vids below. The first two videos feature Nastassia and I being interviewed by Jannelle, as well as Jannelle getting a taste of The Manila Machine menu–which she loved btw.

The last two vids are of Jannelle interviewing Father Arnold Abelardo, a friend and adviser of current Philippine President Noynoy Aquino. But prior to Jannelle’s interview of Father Abelardo, she can be seen on board The Manila Machine as Nastassia and I are busy slingin’ SARAPNESS! Yes, it was a Manila Machine take over on Kababayan LA!

Many thanks to Jannelle So for inviting us on Kababayan LA!

Enjoy the vids everyone.

Taste of FPAC: 09/09/2010

Ladies and Gentlemen,

In conjunction with FilAm ARTS and the Festival of Philippine Arts and Culture, The Manila Machine is proud to announce a celebration of Filipino cuisine. On September 9, 2010, The Manila Machine will be teaming up with one of Los Angeles’ best chefs for a Filipino food extravaganza!

Needless to say… we’re freaking excited! Many many thanks to our hosts at FilAm ARTS.

Who’s the guest chef you’re asking? Where will this Pinoy smorgasbord take place? All in good time people. All in good time.

An announcement will be made soon in which we’ll reveal the super secret guest chef and the super secret location. But perhaps you can guess the chef and the location from the official FilAm ARTS Save the Date below:

Local top chefs grew up eating it, national TV shows such as Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” have featured it – and this summer, it started hitting the streets of Los Angeles for the first time ever…

It is Filipino food, and the San Francisco Chronicle thinks it “might just be the next Asian cuisine to hit prime time.”

Join us in celebrating the renaissance of Filipino cuisine. SAVE THE DATE for FilAm ARTS’ premiere “Taste of FPAC,” a Filipino foodie event and kickoff reception for the 19th annual Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture. The event will feature contemporary traditional Filipino American cuisine made in Los Angeles from The Manila Machine, Southern California’s first Filipino food truck, and a very special guest chef to be announced soon (hint: oink oink)!

Thursday, September 9, 2010

6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Location (which is related to the special guest chef) also to be announced soon!

Tickets: $50

For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Nerissa Silao at nerissa@filamarts.org.

Proceeds benefit The Association for the Advancement of Filipino American Arts and Culture, also known as FilAm ARTS, a multi-disciplinary community arts organization whose mission is to advance the understanding of the arts and diverse cultural heritage of Filipinos in the United States. FilAm ARTS presents the annual Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture (FPAC). The largest showcase of its kind in Southern California, the 19th Annual FPAC takes place this year September 11-12, 2010 in San Pedro, California. ART + CULTURE = COMMUNITY

Hoy Pinoys and Filipino Food Fans!

We just wanted to let everyone know that The Manila Machine will be appearing on Kababayan LA on August 20! That’s right true believers, this Friday Southern California’s First Filipino Food Truck will be featured on Southern California’s only daily Filipino television show.

For those not in the know, Kababayan LA is more than just a local television show on channel 18 (LA18 TV). Kababayan LA actually airs in more than 6 million homes across the Southland, so we are very excited to be a part of the show this week.

In fact, if you’re a regular watcher of Kababayan LA, you’ve probably already heard The Manila Machine mentioned a few times already on air. Here’s a clip of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Kababayan LA. Skip to the 2:45 minute mark in the video and see Villaraigosa singing the praises of The Manila Machine and our award-winning Pork Belly and Pineapple Adobo:

Although we’ve been mentioned a few times on Kababayan LA, this Friday will mark our first actual appearance on the show. We’ll be taping our segment with Kababayan LA Host, Jannelle So, during lunch on Friday. So if anyone wants, feel free to drop by the truck at KSCI TV studios this Friday at noon or after. We’ll definitely be taping during this time, so you might even get your mug on TV.

And if you can’t make it out for lunch, be sure to tune in to LA 18 at 4:30pm that same day (Friday August 20) to watch our segment on Kababayan LA!
